Localized Production of Cardiovascular Monitoring Devices in India

Omron Healthcare is launching full-scale production of digital blood pressure monitors at its new 24,000-square-meter manufacturing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The factory is designed to supply cardiovascular diagnostic equipment directly to the domestic market, establishing a localized infrastructure for preventive healthcare technologies.

Factory Infrastructure and Production Standards
Located at ORIGINS by Mahindra, the facility operates five dedicated production lines. The manufacturing architecture utilizes production technologies and quality-control protocols transferred from the company's Matsusaka, Japan, and Vietnam facilities to maintain standardized measurement accuracy. Initial production focuses on the HEM-7090, HEM-7181, and HEM-7183T device series. These diagnostic tools incorporate Trend Indicator features to track blood pressure fluctuations over time and feature Bluetooth connectivity to synchronize physiological data with the Omron Connect application, integrating the hardware into a broader digital health ecosystem.

Cardiovascular Health Metrics and Market Penetration
The establishment of local manufacturing capacity addresses a specific epidemiological baseline. An estimated 300 million individuals in the country present with hypertension, and the World Health Organization classifies cardiovascular diseases, including stroke and heart failure, among the primary causes of regional mortality. Despite this prevalence, regular home usage of blood pressure monitoring devices remains below 5 percent of households. Expanding the domestic availability of these diagnostic devices is intended to facilitate earlier identification of cardiovascular risk factors and support standardized hypertension management across varied demographic groups.

Capacity Expansion and Supply Chain Integration
Operating in the region since 2010, the company previously focused on academic research support and contributing to domestic home blood pressure monitoring guidelines in collaboration with the Indian Society of Hypertension. The transition to physical manufacturing involves a targeted tenfold increase in the Chennai facility's production capacity by 2028. Future operational phases include developing the site as an export hub for international markets and integrating production lines for respiratory nebulizers to treat asthma.

Detailing the strategic function of the new facility, Ayumu Okada, President and CEO of Omron Healthcare Co., Ltd., stated, "The commencement of full-scale production in Chennai is an important step toward ensuring a stable supply of medical-grade blood pressure monitors in India."
