Honeywell has signed an agreement with TruAlt Bioenergy Limited to deploy its Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) process technology for the production of 80,000 tons per annum (TPA) of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India. The project represents a key step toward creating one of the country’s first grassroots, dedicated SAF production facilities based on ethanol feedstock.
The agreement covers the use of Honeywell UOP’s ETJ technology, which converts ethanol derived from renewable sources into SAF. The process is designed for integration with existing ethanol production infrastructure and can also be configured to produce renewable diesel, supporting emissions reduction in both aviation and road transport sectors.
By leveraging ethanol as a domestic feedstock, the project aligns with India’s strategy to scale low-carbon fuels while strengthening local agricultural and industrial value chains. Once operational, the facility is expected to contribute to lower lifecycle CO₂ emissions from aviation and increase demand for bioethanol, supporting farmer incomes.
Honeywell’s ETJ technology is positioned as a cost-efficient pathway for SAF production, offering flexibility across multiple renewable feedstocks. In addition to process licensing, Honeywell provides modular renewable fuels solutions that can be fabricated off-site and installed rapidly, reducing project risk and accelerating commissioning compared with conventional refinery construction.
The project supports India’s broader push for self-reliance in clean energy and reflects growing momentum toward ethanol-based SAF as a scalable route for aviation decarbonization in emerging markets.
